Being a young and aspiring angler I have a lot to learn about the industry, and this is why I’ve decided to come here. To share my findings of what works (and what doesn’t) on the water and other cool things I experience I experience along the way.
First, an introduction, so here is a little about me; My name is Kristina, and I love to fish! I’ve been fishing the Pacific coast off of British Columbia my whole life along with some lake and river fishing.
A lot of people are always interested when I tell them how much I love to fish. I think partially due to being a girl it kind of takes them by surprise. “You like fishing?” “Can you set up your own line?” “Why do you like it so much?” Are the usual questions I get to explain to people once they find out I am a fisher girl. Spoiler alert…I can actually set up my line! I got high fived by a sales associate last year when I went in asking about what people have been using for bass on the local lakes lately. The man even asked me if it was a boyfriend or my dad who got me into it. He high fived me again when I told him it was my father/grandfathers and I wasn’t just in there to get some stuff to impress a boy.
The thing is, fishing has always been a part of my life. I caught my first fish on my grandfather’s boat when I was just 3 years old. Both my grandfathers’ fished. Even my grandmother was a proud fisherwoman. My Papa likes to tell me about how she probably dragged him out on the boat more than he dragged her out, and she’d never want to come in. I’m proud to follow in such an amazing and strong woman’s footsteps. Papa passed on lots of cool advice and stories about fishing the “fishing capital of the world,” Oh, and to never get between a woman and her fishing rod when it starts screaming!
As I grew older I was the one who was putting the pressure on to get out on the boat. Growing up on the water I loved being at sea. At 10 years old I would go out and dig up worms the night before and at 6am I’d be pulling the rowboat down the ramp full of fishing gear, my rice krispies and hot chocolate. I didn’t know that worms didn’t work much for salmon (Did catch a flounder once though! But I freaked out when it flopped around the boat like crazy, then it got out). I gave it a good go, and for being only 10 years’ old that’s something that I can look back on and be proud I did it! From there, I never looked back. Many summers and falls of fishing have come and gone, lots of fish, lots of days out on the water enjoying the west coast even while getting skunked. But every single time out has been amazing!

Fishing is something I grew up doing, and it turned out to be my favorite thing in the world. So here I am, sharing my fishing stories in a blog. After being in the fishing industry, even competing in derby’s I’m always searching for more information on fishing. Learning about this sport is amazing because it’s always evolving and changing, so it definitely keeps me on my toes.
That’s what fishing is all about isn’t it? Learning and evolving. I believe that if I can share my fishing stories and strategies and help one angler to enjoy their time out on the water even more, that’d be amazing! So stay tuned for some fishing stories and I’ll share my tips on what to do (probably some what not to dos) and pointers for those of you who are just getting started!
Happy Fishing,
Kristina
